How to recreate the user profile in Windows 10
The user profile is a set of settings that allow you to control the appearance and operation of your computer. If you get an error message during an attempt to log into Windows that your user profile may be corrupted, you can try to restore it. For this purpose, you should create a new profile and then copy the files from the existing profile to the new one.
In order to correctly switch from one profile to another, it is necessary to follow some steps:
Activate and access the administrator account
Run a command prompt with elevated privileges from the Start menu using the “Run as administrator” feature and run the command: net user Administrator /active:yes.
Restart the PC and log in with the Administrator account.
Copy the content of the user account
Navigate to C:\Users with Windows Explorer and make a copy of your user folder on the Desktop.
- Delete the old profile
Press the key combination Win+R (Win is the key with the Windows logo), then type regedit. - Navigate to the path HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList.
- Here a series of keys will appear. Find our profile, identified by the homonymous folder and proceed to delete the key.
- Go back to C:\Users and delete the folder related to the old profile
Create the new profile
Restart the computer and log in. This will create the new profile.
